Fairfield County Progressive Marathon Revised Plan
SEE MARCH 15 UPDATE FOR NEW REVISED PLAN,
AFTER RACE HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED
The following is out of date, see update #5 for new info:
Hello
Everyone:
First
off, I realize everyone was disappointed about the cancellation of the St.
Patrick’s Day Classic this morning, but it was certainly out of anyone’s
control. I was at Jennings Beach at
7:45AM when I learned that the Fairfield Police Department deemed the
conditions unsafe for the race.
Hopefully everyone got notification of the cancellation in time and did
not make a needless trip to Fairfield.
(Official
notice from the race organizers: http://www.hitekracing.com/wssac/)
Anyway,
with the first race having been canceled, that leaves the Progressive Marathon
series in a bit of a dilemma (as 22.2 miles does not equal a marathon!).
The
solution that has been worked out is as follows:
1.
The
Time Trial (which will be held on the linear trail in Trumbull (off of Tait
Road, for those who want an idea of location) will be increased to 4.1
miles. The dates will remain the same,
so schedule-wise it should not affect anyone.
2.
That
will give us 23.1 miles of races, leaving us 3.1 miles (or a 5K) short. A 5K will then be needed to replace today’s
missed race. Because of scheduling,
this will be a “choose your own 5K.”
Any 5K in Fairfield County that occurs prior to the series ending on
June 6 can be used to replace this race, as long as results are reported
online.
3.
The
5K I am going to recommend to everyone is a new race: the Inaugural “Christine’s Run it While You Can” at Fairfield’s
Jennings Beach on May 16th at 11AM.
The course is essentially a shortened version of today’s canceled race,
so it would have the benefit of maintaining the intended venues for the
series. In addition, if a large number
of participants do the same race it’s much easier to keep track of
everyone. You can find information on
the race here: http://www.hitekracing.com/runitwhileyoucan/.
(Of course, this particular race is not required –
you can choose a race that fits your schedule better instead).
4.
I
realize some of you are planning to use the “Accelerate Your Life” race in
Norwalk on May 16th as an alternate. You can certainly use “Christine’s Run” as your alternate
instead, and then use a 5K of your choosing to substitute for today.
5.
If
you were planning to replace today’s race with the 8K next week or the 10K at
the “Minuteman,” you will no longer need to do so, as you will only need a 5K
for the alternate. (However, you are still free to use the 8K or 10K, but it
will only be replacing a 5K shortfall, not 4 miles)
At
this point, the plan outlined above seems to be the best solution. Increasing the distance of the time trial
should not be a problem for anyone, and the thought is that there are enough
5Ks around that everyone will be able to find one that will fit their schedule.
Again,
I apologize for any confusion and also in advance for the problems/mistakes
that are sure to arise in keeping track of all of you across multiple races to
make up today’s race.
It
would be greatly appreciated if you could take the time to choose a 5K
replacement, whether it be the recommended “Christine’s Run,” or something else,
and send me that information.
Thank
you for your patience and I will see you in just a few weeks in Easton. Don’t forget – people can still register
until the Easton race, so keep inviting your family and friends!
