Fairfield County Progressive Marathon Revised Plan #2

Hello Everyone:

It now appears that the St. Patrick’s Day Classic has been rescheduled, and will be run this Sunday (March 21).

For several reasons, of which I will not go into here, it will be unfair to retain this race as a required race.  Therefore, there will now be a 2 option solution for the Progressive Marathon:

Option A

(Original series with rescheduled St. Patrick’s race)

Option B

(Revised series with 5K to replace St. Patrick’s race & longer Time Trial)

Race 1: March 21, 2010: St. Patrick’s Day Classic – Fairfield – 4 Miles

Race 2: April 3, 2010: April Fool’s Race for DARE – Easton – 5K

Race 3: April 11, 2010: Donnelly Dash – Fairfield – 3.5 Miles

Race 4: April 25 or May 1 or 2, 2010: 3.2 Mile Time Trial – Trumbull – 3.2 Miles

Race 5: May 9, 2010: Norwalk Mother’s Day 10K – Norwalk – 10K

Race 6: May 30, 2010: Bridgeport Hospital Home Run – Bridgeport – 5K

Race 7: June 6, 2010: Sprint for DARE – Monroe – 5K

Race 1: April 3, 2010: April Fool’s Race for DARE – Easton – 5K

Race 2: April 11, 2010: Donnelly Dash – Fairfield – 3.5 Miles

Race 3: April 25 or May 1 or 2, 2010: 4.1 Mile Time Trial – Trumbull – 4.1 Miles

Race 4: May 9, 2010: Norwalk Mother’s Day 10K – Norwalk – 10K

Race 5: May 30, 2010: Bridgeport Hospital Home Run – Bridgeport – 5K

Race 6: June 6, 2010: Sprint for DARE – Monroe – 5K

Replacement Race: “Choose your own 5K” (must take place in Fairfield County before 6/6/10)

·         Recommended Replacement: 5/16/10: Christine’s Run it While You Can – Fairfield – 5K

(Alternate Race options will remain the same)

If you select Option A, go ahead and run the rescheduled 4 miler this weekend, and then proceed as planned.

If you select Option B, the first official race will now be April 3.  To account for the 4 miles missed, a 5K of your choice must be selected, and the time trial will be extended to 4.1 miles (don’t worry, I believe we can make it work with 2 different distances…)

I ask everyone to go to this link, and select which series option you will be taking:

http://fairfieldmarathon.questionform.com/public/FairfieldCountyMarathon2010

The Important changes for those selecting Option B are as follows: (if you are sticking with Option A, you don’t need to worry about this):

  1. The Time Trial (which will be held on the linear trail in Trumbull (off of Tait Road, for those who want an idea of location) will be increased to 4.1 miles.  The dates will remain the same, so schedule-wise it should not affect anyone.
  2. This will give you 23.1 miles of races, leaving you 3.1 miles (or a 5K) short.  A 5K will then be needed to replace the St. Patrick’s Day Classic missed race.  Because of scheduling, this will be a “choose your own 5K.”  Any 5K in Fairfield County that occurs prior to the series ending on June 6 can be used to replace this race, as long as results are reported online.
  3. The 5K I am going to recommend to everyone is a new race:  the Inaugural “Christine’s Run it While You Can” at Fairfield’s Jennings Beach on May 16th at 11AM.  The course is essentially a shortened version of the St. Patrick’s Classic, so it has the benefit of maintaining the intended venues for the series.  If a large number of those who choose Option B do the same race it will be much easier to keep track of everyone.  You can find information on the race here: http://www.hitekracing.com/runitwhileyoucan/.

(Of course, this particular race is not required – you can choose a race that fits your schedule better instead).

  1. If you were planning to use the “Accelerate Your Life” race in Norwalk on May 16th as an alternate.  You can certainly use “Christine’s Run” as your alternate instead, and then use a 5K of your choosing to substitute for today.
  2. If you were planning to replace the St. Patrick’s Race with the 8K on March 21, or the 10K at the “Minuteman,” you will no longer need to do so, as you will only need a 5K for the alternate. (However, you are still free to use the 8K or 10K, but it will only be replacing a 5K shortfall, not 4 miles)

Again, I apologize for any confusion and also in advance for the problems/mistakes that are sure to arise in keeping track of all of you across multiple races to make up for the postponed race.

It you are selecting Option B, it would be greatly appreciated if you could take the time to choose a 5K replacement, whether it be the recommended “Christine’s Run,” or something else, and provide that information.

Thank you for your continued patience!
