Update #2
It is now less than 2 weeks until the start of the 2nd Fairfield County Progressive Marathon!
If you haven’t registered for the first race, the St. Patrick’s Day Classic (March 14), I recommend doing so soon. You will not only save a few dollars on the registration, but you will ensure yourself of a race t-shirt (I know that they ran out VERY quickly last year)
For those of you who did not receive the first update from me (either because you were not yet registered, email went to spam, etc), I will be placing all updates here, so that you do not miss any information:
www.fairfieldcountymarathon.com/updates.htm
I would like to remind everyone of the races on the series schedule:
1: March 14, 2010: St. Patrick's Day Classic (Fairfield, CT) – 4 Miles
2: April 3, 2010: April Fool’s Race for D.A.R.E. (Easton, CT) – 5K (3.1 Miles)
3: April 11, 2010: Donnelly Dash (Fairfield, CT) – 3.5 Miles
4: May 1/2, 2010: 3.2 Mile “Time Trial” (Trumbull, CT) – 3.2 Miles
5: May 9, 2010: Norwalk Mothers Day 10K (Norwalk, CT) – 10K (6.2 Miles)
6: May 30, 2010: Bridgeport Hospital Home Run (Bridgeport, CT) – 5K (3.1 Miles)
7: June 6, 2010: Sprint for D.A.R.E. (Monroe, CT) – 5K (3.1 Miles)
The Alternate Races (of which you may select 2 to replace a race of equal or lesser distance):
3/21/10-Spring Equinox-New Canaan (8K); 4/25/10-Westport Minuteman-Westport (5K/10K); 5/16/10-Accelerate Your Life-Norwalk (5K)
If you are running any alternate races, PLEASE let me know which races you are replacing (so that I don’t think you dropped out of the series).
During the series, there are bound to be mixups on my part, so I ask that everyone confirm their cumulative time (and distance completed) as we go, and let me know of any problems when you see them (you have my apologies in advance!)
If anyone has to change plans on alternate races (either adding one because of an unexpected miss of a race, switching alternates, switching which race it will replace, etc.) that is fine, I just ask that you let me know as soon as you know what you will be doing.
*If a race has yet to post its registration link for 2010, don’t be alarmed, they should all be up very soon as spring begins.
Again, I want to make sure everyone is aware that series t-shirts and goody bags will not be given out until the Donnelly Dash on April 11 (Race #3). So please do not be upset when they are not here for the St. Patrick’s Race. The Progressive Marathon will have a table setup at the St. Patrick’s Classic, where you can “check in” and receive a 2010 Progressive Marathon wristband (which you can then wear during series races, to help identify yourself as a series participant). When (If) I get information on where that table will be setup, I will pass it along to everyone prior to the race. This year the series color will be orange, so the wristband will be different from last year’s.
I am hoping that our table can be setup outside of the “pavilion”, so we are not crowded out by registration. That way it can also serve as a meeting point for any series participants who want to mingle with each other. (but again, I will pass location information along once I get it).
I don’t have further information on how the time trial will work written up yet, but hope to have that available some time between the first 2 races. At that point I will email it to everyone, and a copy will also be placed in the goody bags on April 11.
ATTENTION MINUTEMAN RUNNERS (Date Correction):
The Minuteman is going to be the first weekend of May (May 2) rather than the last weekend of April. In order to accommodate the people who this will affect, it will be possible to run the “Time Trial” on April 25 (in addition to May 1 and 2). Anyone who was planning to run the Time Trial on May 1 or 2 (and particularly those on May 2), AND the Minuteman as an alternate race, PLEASE let me know if you would rather run back-to-back (Time Trial on May 1, Minuteman on May 2) or the Time Trial the week before on April 25. Anyone else, who would rather run the Time Trial the week before on April 25, is certainly welcome to as well, just let me know.
If anyone has any questions at this point, please ask. You can also ask me in person at the first race.
And keep encouraging friends and family members to sign up and become a part of the series! (they can even decide to after the first race)
See you all on March 14!
